The Supreme Court will be hearing a case over a New York City regulation on the transportation of guns. The case could significantly reshape the nation’s gun laws.
Three licensed gun owners sued New York City in 2013 for violating their Second Amendment rights. Under local regulations, they were allowed to own guns, but they were prevented from transporting them to another home outside the city and the guns must be kept unloaded and locked in a container.
The NRA is hoping the Supreme Court will overturn lower court rulings that went in favor of New York City’s law. Interesting, the city recently relaxed the restriction in the law to allow transport from home to home or to a shooting range. They will be arguing that the case is now moot.
