Last summer, Lil Nas X and Cardi B collaborated on a track called “Rodeo”. The song managed to attract the attention of Don Lee and Glen Keith DeMeritt III. Attention in the form of a copyright issue.
Their beat “gwenxdonelee4-142” was used in Puretoreefa and Sakrite Duexes in the song “Broad Day.” Lee and DeMeritt are now filing a suit against Lil Nas X and Cardi B claiming that “Rodeo” has “a substantially similar overall sound and feel” to their song both of which are 142 beats per minute. “Rodeo” also features similar “guitar and wind instruments to evoke a certain aesthetic that is set against hip-hop elements derived from digital drum and bass elements”. The duo believe they have a real case for copyright infringement.
Can’t wait to see the guy in robes counting out the beats, all 142 of them.
